Wake up early. Earlier than you think you need to. Set your alarm for five thirty in the morning, pull on your shoes, and walk out into a Venice that most visitors never see. The canals still and silver in the early light. The calle empty and echoing with your footsteps. The sun rising over the lagoon and turning the whole city to gold one ancient facade at a time.
